Occult Crescent Knowledge Level

Knowledge Level is the zone-specific progression system inside the Occult Crescent Field Operation, separate from your main character level and Phantom Job levels. It runs from 1 to 40 and is earned by defeating enemies, completing FATEs, and clearing Critical Encounters inside the zone. Knowledge Level affects how effectively you can engage enemies — fighting foes with a higher Knowledge Level reduces your damage and increases damage taken. Higher Knowledge Level also increases the EXP and currency rewards from chain kills. The fastest method is coordinated EXP chain farming — parties that continuously defeat high-level enemies in sequence trigger chain bonuses that stack up to chain 30. The bonus applies to knowledge EXP, Phantom Job EXP, and currency rewards simultaneously. FATEs and Critical Encounters also provide fixed knowledge EXP and are strong supplementary sources. Solo or unorganized play through FATEs alone is slower but accessible without a dedicated group.

Knowledge Level 40 is the requirement to enter both the Forked Tower: Magic and the Forked Tower: Magic (Extreme) — the 48-player Field Raids introduced in Patch 7.55 on North Horn. Reaching level 40 makes you eligible to accept the unlock quest from NPC Ketenramm in the North Horn base camp. Completing that quest unlocks the Forked Tower: Magic for Normal difficulty. A separate quest unlocks Extreme. Both the Normal and Extreme versions also require average item level 690 or above.

South Horn is the original Occult Crescent zone introduced in Patch 7.25, with a Knowledge Level cap of 20. While on South Horn, your Knowledge Level is synced to 20 regardless of your actual level — progression above 20 only happens on North Horn.
